Overview

Engineering Planner / Scheduler
Cajun Engineering Solutions (CES) | Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Position Summary
Cajun Engineering Solutions (CES) is seeking an Engineering Planner / Scheduler to develop, maintain, and analyze schedules for multidiscipline engineering projects. This position works closely with engineering project managers, discipline leads, project controls, procurement, and construction teams to translate project scope into practical execution plans.

Key Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain integrated engineering schedules using Primavera P6, including activities, durations, dependencies, milestones, and critical paths.
• Work with project managers and discipline leads to establish realistic execution sequences for civil, structural, mechanical, piping, process, electrical, and instrumentation engineering.
• Align schedules with the Master Document Register (MDR), engineering work packages, scope requirements, and contractual milestones.
• Incorporate engineering interfaces with equipment vendors, clients, other engineering firms, procurement, and construction.
• Identify required design inputs, responsible parties, and need dates; track missing information and communicate its potential impact.
• Facilitate regular schedule reviews with discipline leads to validate actual progress, remaining durations, upcoming deliverables, and resource needs.
• Establish and apply consistent progress measurement methods based on defined engineering milestones and verifiable work completion.
• Evaluate critical and near-critical activities, available float, out-of-sequence work, and emerging schedule risks.
• Develop resource-loaded schedules and staffing forecasts; identify workload peaks, discipline bottlenecks, and capacity constraints.
• Prepare schedule narratives, look-ahead reports, milestone summaries, staffing curves, and planned-versus-actual progress reports.
• Evaluate the schedule effects of scope changes, delayed inputs, revisions, and changes in execution strategy.
• Support recovery planning and scenario analysis, clearly identifying assumptions, resource requirements, and tradeoffs.
• Maintain approved baselines and a documented record of schedule changes.
• Coordinate engineering package release dates with construction priorities and required-on-site equipment dates.
• Support proposal development through preliminary schedules, milestone plans, and resource estimates.

Required Qualifications
• Proficiency with Primavera P6 and Microsoft Excel.
• Working knowledge of engineering deliverables, discipline interfaces, design reviews, and issued-for-construction workflows.
• Demonstrated ability to develop logic-driven schedules and perform critical path analysis.
• Experience with resource planning, progress measurement, schedule forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Ability to work directly with technical personnel, challenge unsupported assumptions constructively, and obtain reliable schedule information.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in petrochemical, refining, power, or similar facilities.
• Experience integrating engineering schedules with procurement and construction schedules.
• Familiarity with MDRs, engineering work packages, document management systems, and change management processes.
• Experience supporting multiple concurrent projects and shared engineering resources.
• Familiarity with earned value concepts and engineering labor-hour forecasting.
• Experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools.
